Women near Lunel

These 47 drawings were made between 2002 and 2014, and the recurring theme of the 2013 and 2014 drawings is a maritime setting, inspired by the small town of Le Grau-du-Roi, in the south of France, where the painter stayed on several occasions.

The presence of gulls (southern cousins of the Burgundian sparrows!) and protective female figures is characteristic of this series. Faced with the sea and death, the painter maintains a detached, phantasmagorical, benevolent and creative humour.
